Other Methods of Obtaining Pokémon

Changing Ownership

Pokémon breeders exist for a reason, but their prices are far from cheap. Even the most common Tier 1 Pokémon can sell for ten thousand dollars, while rarer ones can sell for millions! You’d either need a lot of money or a lot of good will to get one this way… or you could visit a black market, but that comes with its own problems.

  • Some cities have abandoned Pokémon shelters, as some Trainers simply cannot or refuse to take care of their Pokemon. These Pokémon may start at a lower Loyalty if previously mistreated, but adopting a Pokemon is a much cheaper alternative to buying one.

Many Trainers are looking for new Pokémon of their own and will happily trade one for another. This can be done at a Pokémon Center using specialized machinery – your original Pokémon still lists your old ownership, but they are now property of the new Trainer. Pokémon generally dislike being traded away and are likely to start at Loyalty 1 or 2 unless the new Trainer has proven themselves somehow.


Fossils

Some Pokémon have been dead for millions of years, leaving behind fossils as their only remnants. While the ‘typical’ Fossil Pokémon can only be found as fossils, that doesn’t mean Fossils of other Pokémon don’t exist. A Fossil Pokémon is typically just a Rock-Shifted variant of the base Pokémon, but creativity is always encouraged.

  • Fossils may be reanimated at a Reanimation Machine or its Portable variant. This process creates an Egg that hatches at a Level equal to twice your Tier. This is an otherwise normal Egg, see the Breeding section for details.
  • Trainers with the Paleontologist Edge, Adept Pokémon Education, or Adept Survival may find Fossils during the Go Catch a Pokémon Downtime Action, but only in areas where there are actually Fossils to find.

Fishing

Fishing is a lovely way to spend a morning or lazy afternoon, or grab a quick bite to eat. What you can fish up depends on your Fishing Rod.
There are 4 Tiers of rods: Old Rods, Good Rods, Super Rods, and Hyper Rods. Each rod can only catch Pokémon of its Tier or less.

  • Old Rods can only catch Small or smaller sized Pokémon.
  • Good Rods can catch Large or smaller sized Pokémon.
  • Super Rods can catch Massive or smaller sized Pokémon.
  • Hyper Rods can catch almost anything that swims.

As long as you have Bait and a fishing rod, then you can try to fish in any body of water. Fishing is exactly the same as the Go Catch a Pokémon Downtime Action, except you may only return with a Water-Type Pokémon. You do not have to actually use a Pokeball to capture it if you’re just turning it into some Food Scrap.

Beware!
Just because you’re using a fishing rod that can only catch weak Pokémon doesn’t mean that stronger ones won’t notice you fishing on their turf. Sudden Gyarados attacks are rare, but not unheard of.
